Project Overview
Designed for a compact residence where every square foot matters, this Renlita Vue creates a large connection between the main living area and the outdoor deck without introducing an intrusive overhead door system into the interior.
The glazed vertical lift opening brings in natural light and expansive views while allowing the living space to extend outdoors when open. Its streamlined operation helps preserve valuable floor and ceiling space, supporting the home’s open, efficient design.
The Challenge
In a compact home, every square foot has a purpose. The challenge is not simply fitting everything within a smaller footprint, but finding ways to make the space feel open, functional, and connected without sacrificing valuable floor area.
For this residence, a large opening between the main living area and the outdoor deck offered an opportunity to expand the experience of the home beyond its physical walls. However, a conventional overhead door system could introduce tracks, panels and operating clearance into an already limited interior space.
The opening needed to provide the scale and indoor-outdoor connection the design called for while remaining as unobtrusive as possible when open.
The Solution
A Renlita Vue vertical lift system provided a large glazed opening while preserving the usable space surrounding it.
Rather than extending traditional overhead tracks deep into the room, the Vue operates vertically, allowing the system to remain concentrated at the opening. When raised, the door opens the living area directly to the exterior and creates a stronger visual and functional connection to the deck.
The large glazed surface also maintains views and natural light when the door is closed, helping the interior retain the open quality that was central to the design.
Key Benefits
Space Optimization
In smaller residential spaces, the way a door operates can be just as important as the size of the opening itself.
By lifting vertically, the Vue minimizes intrusion into the interior and allows more of the surrounding floor and ceiling area to remain usable. Furniture placement, circulation and everyday use of the room are less restricted by the operating path of the door.
The result is a large architectural opening without requiring the home to dedicate valuable interior space to a conventional overhead system.
Expanding the Living Space
Opening the Vue changes the way the home uses its available square footage.
With the door raised, the deck becomes a natural extension of the main living area, creating longer sightlines and making the overall space feel larger than its enclosed footprint might suggest.
This ability to visually and functionally extend the room beyond the exterior wall allows a relatively compact home to provide a much larger living experience.
Indoor-Outdoor Connection
The large glazed opening creates a strong connection between the interior and the surrounding outdoor environment in both the open and closed positions.
When closed, the expansive glass surface maintains exterior views and allows natural light to reach deep into the living space. When open, the separation between the home and deck is significantly reduced, allowing movement, views and activity to flow more naturally between the two areas.
For a residence where space is limited, that connection helps the home feel brighter, more open and more closely integrated with its surroundings.
