Project Overview

There’s something special about dining along the waterfront in Ocean City, Maryland. At Micky Fins, the harbor views are part of the attraction, and the restaurant’s architecture makes the most of its location.
Sixteen Renlita Vue glass doors span multiple exterior walls, surrounding guests with expansive views of the harbor. The large glass openings bring the waterfront into the dining experience, creating a welcoming atmosphere whether the doors are open or closed. With the ability to transform sheltered dining areas into an open-air setting, Micky Fins offers guests the best of both worlds.

The Challenge

For a waterfront restaurant, the view is more than a backdrop. It’s part of what brings people through the door. The challenge at Micky Fins was to create a comfortable, sheltered dining environment without losing the atmosphere of being right on the harbor.

With glass openings extending across multiple sides of the building, the design also called for a consistent appearance throughout. The operable glass doors needed to work alongside fixed glazing without disrupting the clean lines or panoramic views that make the space so inviting.

The Solution

Renlita’s Vue glass door system provided an innovative solution for opening the restaurant to its waterfront surroundings. Using motorized linear actuators, each Vue lifts a single hinged glass panel outward and upward, creating an expansive opening at the touch of a button. With 16 Vue systems installed across multiple exterior walls, Micky Fins can transform its sheltered bar and dining areas into an open-air setting overlooking the harbor.

Fourteen of the Vue systems share matching 9’-0” wide by 6’-7” tall openings. To maintain a consistent architectural appearance, Renlita also fabricated custom fixed glass panels beneath the operable doors, aligning the framing to create a cohesive glass facade. Low-E insulated glass helps support interior comfort and energy efficiency while preserving the waterfront views.
